Teaching kids -- Inspiring teachers

More children's ministers quit due to volunteer issues than all the other issues combined!

This, my friends, should not be.  Recruiting is hard ... agreed.  And staffing children's rooms where the volunteer has to miss a service is difficult ... yup.  BUT ... it can be done!  Successfully.  Enthusiastically.  Peacefully.  And with FUN!

Seriously.

How would you like to have a strong, fully staffed volunteer team that runs as smooth as silk week-in, week-out, month-in, month-out…even while you’re on vacation!

This is what Jeri, from Florida said about the manual ... "Oh my goodness!  This book has made such a HUGE difference in my ministry ... I cannot even tell you!  You are the best thing since the OREO cookie!"

Now, isn't that nice?

A little story:   It was early Sept. in 1997, I took 5 of my lead teachers to a conference. We were having the time of our lives…talking non-stop, learning new things, getting excited about new ideas…what a great weekend we were having. Then, mid-day on the 2nd day of the conference, I had just sent my workers off to their workshops and was heading into the dining hall for a cup of coffee before heading to my meeting.

A woman, about my age, was sitting by herself with a very pained expression on her face. I felt drawn to her…I hesitated and actually started to leave…but I knew I'd never be able to concentrate on my class. So I took my coffee over and asked if I could join her.

She looked up and I could see she'd been crying.

"Can I help?" I offered. "Probably not," was her answer. "This conference was my last hope. I came here to get fired up, get some concrete answers to go home with, or decide to finally just quit."

Well, I didn’t know what to say. I was just an "Average Annie" in my opinion, but I hated the fact that my workers and I were living it up and she was suffering. I asked what her biggest issue was and she answered "Getting workers…like everyone else! Oh sure, they have big ideas at this place. I can get myself excited, no problem. I understand the vision part of children’s work, but how in the world do you get people to help you? I know everyone feels the same way…I’ve heard the same complaints from everyone else here…but I just don’t feel like going home to face the same situation again!"

My heart broke. This should not be. "Children are the heritage of the Lord," the Bible tells us. Why should the ones with the passion to take care of His heritage feel so defeated?

But I knew how she felt. I've walked in those shoes...and I remember the feelings well. Thankfully my current situation was very different and had been for a while. So I shared what I could, and comforted her some, but my revelations and experience at the time were still fairly new.  And I wasn't confident that I had any answers that would help someone else.

Oh, how I wish I could meet her again...

and get our materials in her hands! And in the hands of everyone who feels the way she does!  I'm not bragging or trying to sound superior ... I've just grown in confidence that these simple tools, when applied, will help anyone.  That's all.  I'm as amazed as anyone!

Have you ever felt like this lady I ran into at that conference? Like you were just about ready to through in the towel? I know I did before I found the right combination of ideas and strategies for attracting and keeping a vibrant staff.

So you're not alone.

All you need to begin the process of turning your ministry around is our manual "Developing a Dynamic Volunteer Team!" And a little gumption to give it a go once again!

Beth told me after she downloaded the e-book:  "Just reading the first few pages -- before lesson 1 -- I was more inspired than I have been in years!  Thank you for sharing this!"

Your lessons will be simple, quick and easy. Now do they require work? Yes. Everything does. But these ideas are far simpler than you might imagine and you'll feel their amazing affect almost instantly! And...

This simple ideas presented in this manual are a thousand times
easier than not having enough people to help you!

From your very first lesson forward you'll see impact. The excitement will immediately begin to surge and grow and by next Sunday you can actually start having more fun!

YES...IT CAN BE FUN!

It's fun being surrounded by enthusiasm every week.
It's fun encouraging people and hearing them tell
you how you have helped them grow in faith!
It's fun seeing the kids respond to Jesus!

Children’s Ministry Should Be Fun!

Yes, it is work…and yes, the enemy doesn’t want children reached with the love of Jesus…but in spite of that -- YOU CAN AND SHOULD BE HAVING FUN!

Mary Sullivan has been a long-time co-worker.  Here's what she has to say:

"One of the most important things I learned from Miss Pat was that children need to have many fun memories of church, even if they don’t remember all the details. (Although we have always been impressed at how much they do remember!) Church needs to be the place to be and if they ever have any friends who think that church is a drag, they will be able to witness a whole different side of Christianity. Our kids never wanted to miss a service or an event and many times it was because of their persistency to go to church that the parents came. Now that’s a switch!

I truly believe that my service in children’s church should not only minister to the children, but to the adult workers, parents and myself as well. I want to have a good time while I’m ministering for the Lord and I believe that He wants me to also! If you are having fun, then it will spill over in everything you do and your attitude will become the attitude of the children. I have also found that if you are having fun there are many less discipline issues and the time goes by so quickly (too quickly actually)"

In addition to having fun, I also want you to feel good about yourself. And it's hard to feel good about yourself, when things aren't going well. You feel like it's your fault. And you don’t know what to do to make it better.

But again, there's GOOD NEWS!

There are things you can do...simple, easy strategies that, when done consistently, reap incredible results.

Some may seem just too simple…do them anyway! Some may hit you between the eyes…like, duh…why didn’t I think of that? And some may step on your toes a little bit…but who cares? Take these ideas and run with them! It’s those who are ready to dig in and make some changes that will start reaping real, Spirit filled results!

Our children -- God's children need you to step up and be the children's ministry leader you know you're capable of being. All you need are a few good helpers and you'll be off and running. The momentum will build. Then God will bless your efforts with even more recruits. And from there...it's an amazing and wonderful journey.

The best part is your children will be the big winners! They'll grow in love and understanding of The Lord. They'll have fun doing it. And you're life will be a whole lot easier! I know...I've been there. Trust...and together let's build your children's ministry into a true Glory for God's Greatness!
